Welcome to the Parent Solutions Page Do you have solutions for the budget crisis and would like to share them? Contact us and we will post them here. Every family has different priorities and programs near and dear to them. Because of this, we all won't agree with some of the suggestions posted here. That being said, we will post all ideas you send (if appropriate). It's good to see the perspective of other parents.

Posted 12-1-09 - Shortening the school calendar. Read a letter from Lisa here.

Posted 12-2-09 - Eliminate School Site Operations Specialists ($99,500 per year).

Inform all high school seniors of shortened day. Instead of being enrolled in courses they do not need, they can work or take courses at a community college. Dropouts cite the need to work as a major reason for dropping out. Contract with the San Diego Police for school campus officers and eliminate school police chief, lieutenants, sergeants, dispatchers, and vehicle costs. Streamline Course of Study and eliminate specialized courses that benefit too few students. Eliminate outdated Graduation Requirement of Senior exhibition which is staffed with employment outreach specialists and School Site Operations Specialists for 1 assignment that takes 6 months to complete - nonsense to spend this money and effort for what is essentially an 6- 8 minute speech. Posted 12-3-09 - Eliminate all busing not mandated by law. Posted: 12-9-09 Eliminate JROTC. Eliminate Balboa Park Program Eliminate Old Town Program Eliminate 6th Grade Camp (ouch, that hurt to type) Cut administration to the bone and give the school sites more control of equally divided funds. Posted: 12-12-09 Eliminate all field trips. Eliminate extra certificated positions, non-classroom Posted: 12-14-09 Protect magnet school funding for dedicated magnet schools. Posted: 1-15-10 Reduce all salaries across the board. Reduce health benefits to match the majority of American workers. Posted: 2-1-10 Eliminate Middle School building, by keeping children in Elementary to Grade 7 or 8, then directly to High School. This will eliminate a host overhead including admin staff and buildings. Schools in other areas/countries already do this. The field sports area in each elementary school can be used to expand more classes as necessary. This is a long term solution to be worked out, but I don't see this problem going away anytime soon. We need drastic measures that require work to re-organize, and this will save a lot.
