Save the date....February 14th...before you celebrate Valentine's Day, stop by the board meeting and speak out against changing graduation requirements and the millions of dollars they want to spend hiring for these new positions. How can they increase class sizes to the extreme, then hire more teachers for classes high school kids shouldn't be forced to take??? Stop it now...we need you, your high school graduate or soon to graduate students to speak.
Parent Empowerment Summit: Kids First in Education
A Huge Success!!!
A big thank to all who participated! It was amazing to see so many parents attend an education meeting on a Saturday in the summer. A huge thank you to NBCSan Diego's Rory Devine who kept the panel discussion lively and informative! We also appreciate the City of San Diego Human Relations Commission's support.
Senator Gloria Romero gave a motivating speech on education reform and left us knowing that parents are be a force to be reckoned with. We would also like to thank the following for their time and providing us with ideas on how to improve education:
- Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher
- Assemblyman Marty Block
- Reverend Gerald Brown, United African American Ministerial Action Council
- Lisa Berlanga, California Charter School Association
- Pat DeTemple, Parent Revolution
- Cindy Marten, Principal Central Elementary
- Deanne McLaughlin, Principal Los Penasquitos Elementary
- Dr. Alberto Ochoa, Chairperson, Superintendent's Latino Advisory Committee
- Bruce Abrams, Chairperson, City of San Diego Human Relations Commission
The following is an NBCSan Diego News story on the event: June 25, 2011:
